California’s firefighters can’t get fire insurance

How bad is the wildfire risk?  It’s so bad the state of California can’t get insurance for its own firehouses …….  what about you?   This is a trillion dollar problem.

All across North America we’re entering another wildfire season. According to a study by Realtor.com, $22 trillion in residential properties are now at “severe or extreme damage” risk from flooding, high winds, wildfires, heat or poor air quality. This means 44% of residential real estate faces devaluation according to Zillow.

39% of the country’s high fire risk real estate is in California, representing over $1 trillion in property value.  In response, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) has created a wildfire home hardening guide. Among their recommendations – reinforcing windows to prevent breakage and fire infiltration from direct and radiant heat and flying embers.
